The University of Maryland School of Social Work has an opening for an Instructional Designer and eLearning Developer (ID) to work as either a_Specialist or Senior Specialist_member of the Instructional Design E-Learning & Assessment (IDEA) Team.The ID will work to collaborate with faculty and/or contracted subject matter experts to plan, design, develop, implement and update fully online and hybrid graduate level courses, training materials and content. The ID will ensure the development and maintenance of the highest quality online and hybrid courses. The ID will possess an in-depth understanding of designing online and hybrid/blended courses, as well as experience using a wide range of hardware and software tools for educational technology and assessment. In addition the ID provides support for faculty to advance and improve their skills in online teaching as enrollment and offering of online/hybrid classes grows. This position will be filled as either the Specialist or Senior Specialist level dependent on the chosen candidate’s qualifications.

The mission of the IDEA team is to support quality teaching, learning and research by providing services and resources related to instructional design, eLearning, pedagogy, educational technology, assessment and evaluation. We put our knowledge of research-based practices, assessment and alignment of curriculum, tools and technologies for teaching and learning, innovation and experimentation to work for the School of Social Work community.

*Essential Functions:*

/Specialist/

  • Work closely with faculty and/or subject matter experts to plan, design, develop, implement and update fully online and hybrid graduate level courses, training materials and content.

  • Monitors use and secures audio/visual, multimedia, video production, and IT equipment or services as appropriate for course design.

  • Assist with the department’s or school’s presence on the web in design and maintenance of tutorials and resources.

  • May collaborate on training plans and blended learning implementation strategies and in the design and customization of curriculum and provide consultation on course media use.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

/Senior Specialist/

  • Support students and faculty through the development of online, web based, learning content that is interactive in nature.

  • Designs and conducts formal presentations and training in the use of specific technology.

  • Monitors use and secures audio/visual, multimedia, video production, and IT equipment or services as appropriate for course design.

  • Coordinates the planning, design and development of course content and assessments for distance education and/or training offerings and collaborates with media center for content recordings.

  • Collaborates with faculty, and peer review teams to ensure course design maintains strong alignment of course objectives and that content and assessments are consistent with Quality Matters standards.

  • Develops multi-media materials and eLearning applications.

  • Researches new and innovative curriculum and distance education practices. Stays current with curricular trends and standards by maintaining professional memberships and attending conferences.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

*Specialist:*Bachelors in Computer Services, Instructional Design, or related field such as Instructional Technology and two (2) years related experience which includes proficiency with the design of online/hybrid/e-learning courses and audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources.

/OR/

Equivalent of Six (6) years combination of online/hybrid/e-learning course design, business audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources.

*Senior Specialist:* Bachelors in Computer Services, Instructional Design, or related field such as Instructional Technology and three (3) years related experience which includes proficiency with online/hybrid/e-learning course design, audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources.

/OR/

Equivalent of seven (7) years combination of online/hybrid/e-learning course design, business audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources.



*Other: *Prior experience working with Blackboard Learn LMS or other online tools used for collaboration, communication, support, and assessment of digital learning is preferred for both roles.

*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: *

Skill in providing detail oriented quality assurance support. Ability to produce, edit, and embed various forms of media and imagery. Knowledge of Quality Matters rubric and Universal Design for Learning.
