Position Summary

This position is responsible for managing and maintaining the integrity of the Enterprise Master Patient Index. The Epic Enterprise Master Patient Identity Associate researches facility specific and crossover duplicate medical record numbers for all facilities in the Health System; requests and reviews pertinent medical records information necessary to merge duplicate patient medical record numbers and communicates with Health System department contacts to obtain information to resolve data discrepancies. Staff responds to requests for MRN creation, patient updates and patient verification. The position works in a complex identity system and must understand Epic Identity workflows.

Competencies:

Education:

Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Prefer active enrollment in an accredited Health Information Management Program.

Knowledge:

Requires understanding of numerous electronic systems related to record tracking, clinical information, patient visits, medical forms and patient identification system. Ability to multi-task and ability to be cross trained and handle multiple HIM support procedures.

Skills:

Ability to understand work queues and complex electronic functionality related to numerous clinical data systems.

Requires analytical ability and problem solving abilities in order to locate clinical information and assist with requests for medical record information.

Requires ability to prioritize work and follow-up with customers within established time frames.

Requires good written, oral communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate all Hospital practitioners related to patient identity, patients/patient representatives, law firms and insurance companies and outside health facilities. Must have aptitude to assess caller needs and triage calls appropriately.

Required Licensure Certification: RHIT/RHIA certification preferred.

Work Experience:

A minimum of one year experience in Health Information Management or demonstrated administrative level experience in system applications (i.e. electronic medical records, etc.) is required. Previous experience supporting integrity of a Master Patient Index or EPIC Identity preferred..

Working Conditions: Works in normal office environment where there is little discomfort to due to the extremes of heat, dust, noise, temperature and the like
