General summary/purpose :
This research assistant will assist with conducting empirical costing studies and cost-effectiveness analyses of TB preventive therapy in multiple countries, including South Africa and India. This position is part of a larger project to evaluate the cost, cost-effectiveness, and impact of shorter-course preventive therapy across multiple representative countries.
Develop instruments for the collection of cost data
Train individuals in-country on appropriate data collection techniques
Perform site visits/audits of in-country data collectors
Develop standard operating procedures for costing activities
Develop and submit materials for ethical (IRB) approval
Organize database and perform routine quality control of cost data collected in the field
Directly oversee in-country data collection activities
Perform cost and cost-effectiveness analyses independently
Write manuscript(s) describing the results of the costing and cost-effectiveness analyses
Bachelor's degree in related discipline and some related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Experience with the conduct of economic evaluation – whether empirical costing studies or cost-effectiveness/cost-utility/cost-consequence/etc. analyses – is required.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Master’s degree in health economics or related discipline preferred
Experience with global health research
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Fluency in Microsoft Excel
Ability to analyze data using either Stata or R
Any specific physical requirements for the job:
Must be able to travel internationally for 2-3 weeks at a time
Supervisory responsibility :
Will be responsible for training and supervising field staff from local organizations, but will not be responsible for hiring/firing decisions thereof.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
