SR. PAYROLL TAX ANALYST

GENERAL SUMMARY :

This position reports directly to the Director, Payroll and is a highly responsible professional that is expected to make an immediate impact on the HR function's ability to provide valuable payroll services. The successful candidate must also be able to provide customer-focused payroll consultation to employees in all areas of the company. Is responsible for coordination of Payroll tax reporting and tax audits as well as;

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Prepares and files tax reports and pays all payroll related taxes for a multi-state company

  • Works with internal and external auditors as required.

  • Reconciles or assists in the reconciliation of all payroll tax accounts

  • Must be able to process payroll as a back-up to the Director, Payroll

  • Provide payroll data/reports as required to various departments, management and agencies.

  • Participates in the scoping of Payroll and Human resources related information systems. Verifies that implementation efforts meet payroll tax requirement.

  • Prepare paperwork for state registrations and tax returns.

  • Prepares appropriate schedules for tax reports and audits. Audit state tax deposits, prepare monthly/quarterly/annual state tax reconciliations

  • Reconcile 940 and 941 tax forms. Research and resolve outstanding payroll tax Issues

  • Provide assistance to the Tax Team in the preparation of-quarter-end state unemployment/returns

  • Research and respond to all incoming government agency inquiries

  • Implementation of tax changes

  • Analyzes and resolves payroll discrepancies

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

May perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Responsible for payroll processing for multiple locations, up to 8,000 employees including time sheets and employee-initiated changes.

  • Establish and maintain processes to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing

  • Responsible for data entry and maintaining portions of the payroll systems

  • Analyzes and resolves payroll discrepancies

  • Post calculated data in automated payroll system

  • Must be able to process payroll as a back-up to the Director, Payroll

  • Provide assistance to the Payroll Tax analyst in the preparation of-quarter-end state unemployment \ returns

  • Provide payroll data/reports as required to various departments, management and agencies.

  • Revises, balances and distributes payroll direct deposits, pay checks and reports

  • Provides assistance to HR and employees for payroll related questions

  • Prepares and processes garnishment reports, payments and reconciliations to appropriate agencies.

  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts. Supports and helps to implement new ideas.

  • Participates in implementing Payroll and Human resources related information systems. Verifies that implementation efforts meet payroll requirement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college is required. Preferably in Tax or Accounting.

  • A minimum of 6-10 years of related payroll experience is required.

  • LICENSURE and/or CERTIFICATION American Payroll Association Certified Payroll Professional Certificate preferred. Must be willing to work towards a Certified Payroll Professional Certification.

BUSINESS COMPETENCIES :

Within the first year, this person should build relationships and have a thorough knowledge of the company's business. Qualified candidates should have the ability to assess the HR policies, programs, systems and practices against the HR needs for the corporate staff and the business strategy of the various units to identify gaps and recommend solutions for preparing an initial HR plan aligned with the business strategy.
