Stationary Engineer

Where: Curtis Bay, MD (USCG YARD Station)

Type: Part Time, Non-Exempt

Wage: $27.55/hr. & $4.41 in Health &Welfare Benefits

Work Schedule: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Shift coverage, Monday – Sunday, & Holidays as scheduled

Skookum is seeking a dedicated Stationary Engineer. This individual is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of a Central Steam and Compressed Air Plant at the USCG Yard Station Curtis Bay.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Repairs and troubleshoots steam and/or Compressed Air Systems malfunctions to include water treatment systems.

  • Coordinates and performs preventative maintenance on boilers, air compressors and other Central Plant equipment.

  • Utilizes wire diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and drawings to guide repairs and maintenance.

  • Ensures completed work meets quality control standards.

  • Assists with orienting and training new employees and assists in work assignments.


  • Licensed by the State of Maryland as Grade 1 Stationary Engineer required.

  • Must be able to read and understand schematics and blueprints.

  • Maintain professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.

  • Be able to work independently or in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 lbs.

  • Good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, physical fitness, a good sense of balance.

  • Ability to work in a variety of different environments, including inclement weather and high man lifts.


  • Valid Driver’s license required. Must be able to obtain and maintain approval to operate a vehicle by Skookum’s insurance carrier.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
