The Integrated Thermal Systems business is currently seeking aMfg. / Product Engineer for its Beltsville,MDlocation to work in its engineering organization.

Job Summary – Mfg. / Product Engineer (Integrated Thermal Systems)

This position primarily supports manufacturing operations and will report to the site Engineering Manager. Engineers in this position are responsible for coordination of all facets of engineering, production and testing of assigned programs. Knowledge of and familiarity with Lean Enterprise System Engineering (LESE), Visual Management Systems (VMS), Kaizen, 5S, and the Autonomous Manufacturing Organization (AMO) concepts are desired. Performance measurement for this position is conducted using the Safety, Quality, Delivery, Employee Engagement, and Cost (SQDEC) lean framework.

General Responsibilities include:

  • Coordination within a multi-disciplinary team for the design, analysis, manufacture, test and delivery of product to meet all customer requirements while maintaining cost and schedule

  • Generation of product definition requirements and interpretation aligned to proposal price (design to cost)

  • Initiation, review and approval of manufacturing drawings; review for form, fit, function, tolerance analysis and customer requirements

  • Authoring and approval of manufacturing work instructions, verify capability to meet customer requirements, manufacturing capability, and adherence to design qualification and best practices

  • Daily communication with work cell leads during the product manufacturing phase

  • Review/coordination review of test data to verify that requirements have been satisfied

  • Coordination of the design and fabrication of manufacturing tooling

  • Resolution of non-conformances including root cause and corrective action as well as disposition and rework/repair instructions

  • Creation and maintenance of the product bill of materials (BOM), coordination of material and parts procurement/fabrication with Manufacturing Planning to assure material is available when needed

  • Coordination of product inspection points and methods of inspection with Quality Assurance

  • Preparation and approval of product end item data package

  • Coordination of product shipments

  • Support of manufacturing to resolve anomalies and roadblocks in a timely manner to meet product delivery schedules

  • Support manufacturing process development and qualification efforts

  • Serve as the interface between Program Manager and the Manufacturing organization

  • Occasional extended hours, off-shift and weekend coverage may be required to support manufacturing schedules and product on time delivery requirements

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Must be able to follow clean room manufacturing operations and procedures

  • Proficiency with mechanics of materials

  • Welding and soldering

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

  • Good problem-solving skills and strong oral and written communication skills

  • Good organization, time management and multi-tasking skills

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD

  • Proficiency with Pro/Engineer

  • Deltek / CostPoint or other MRP system experience is desirable

  • Aerospace manufacturing experience with one or more of the following is desirable:

  • Metallic surface treatments

  • Structural metallic bonding

  • Testing and instrumentation

  • Familiarity with non-destructive examination techniques

  • US Citizenship

Required Education/Experience:

  • BS in Engineering degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Technology or Mechanical Engineering with manufacturing background

  • 2-5 years related manufacturing experience; aerospace industry or defense industry preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours

  • Will be subject to substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers

  • Must be able to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer screen and extensive reading

  • Primarily office environment

**Position may be filled at one lower level with a BS in Mfg. / Industrial Engineering, Mfg. / Industrial Technology or Mechanical Engineering and 0-2 years manufacturing experience; aerospace or defense industry preferred.
