The Marriott International Law Department services the Company's lodging business. The Employment Practice Group, a part of the Labor, Employment and Benefits section of the Law Department, provides legal advice and counsel regarding employment issues, policies, and programs to Human Resources professionals and line and corporate staff managers within the Company’s businesses. This position provides case coordination and document support to the attorneys Employment Group of the Law Department and reports to the Vice President & Senior Counsel in the Group.
The primary responsibilities of this position will be:
Handle and respond to subpoenas, discovery, andother legal requests for information in connection with employees. Interact with various Marriott departments(e.g., Human Resources, Claims, Alternative Dispute Resolution, InternalInvestigations, Operations, Marriott Rewards, Corporate Communications) andthird-party vendors (e.g. Accenture, PeopleScout, Aon) to request necessarydocuments.
Review, redact and assemble documents; draftcorrespondence and affidavits or certifications as needed. Forward to appropriate court or requesting partywithin required time frame.
Manage requests for employee data such aspersonnel files, time records, and payroll records from internal and externalresources; conduct initial sorting of employee data as appropriate to determineif responsive information was provided; follow-up as necessary.
Provide general support to the attorneys andother members of the group on employment cases or matters.
Assist with preparation and tracking oflitigation holds, as appropriate.
Perform basic legal research.
Create, update, and maintain databases and otherlegal resources, as appropriate.
Create and maintain paper and computer files ofcorrespondence and documents; organize and purge multiple files followingcompletion of project or resolution of matter, as appropriate.
Perform other duties and special projects asrequested by the attorneys; will involve handling confidential and sensitivematerial;
Two year college degree and
Minimum relevant work experience ofone year.
- At least five years of relevant workexperience as a paralegal
Paralegal Certificate preferred but not required.
Successful candidates should possess knowledge and skills as follows:
Good written and oral communication skills -Strong drafting skills a plus
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
Strong business ethics and personal integrity
Ability to work independently after beingprovided with direction from the attorney, take ownership of issues, andeffectively resolve issues
Good interpersonal skills and ability to interacteffectively
