Position Summary:

Working from our office in Columbia, MD, the Academic Placement Intervention Specialist will work with the Academic Placement Services team to interact with prospective families interested in enrolling in a Connections Academy school. Through various communication

efforts, this position’s primary focus is to educate prospective families on the advantages of enrolling their student(s) with Connections Academy. In addition to being a direct point of contact throughout the enrollment process, other responsibilities would

include reviewing and evaluating academic documentation, consulting with fellow Enrollment Intervention Specialists, school administrators, and other staff to make appropriate academic decisions, and maintain a high level of personalized customer service to

build relationships with assigned families. The Academic Placement Intervention Specialist is a critical liaison to the family as they move through the enrollment process and transition into communicating with the local school in their state.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Educate assigned families on the advantages and benefits of being a part of the Intervention process;

  • Create value by presenting families with personalized resources that will build the foundation for successful transition into our program;

  • Partner with the Enrollment Intervention Specialist Team to provide consistent and efficient communication through personalized customer service;

  • Run and manipulate reports using our Education Management System, Connexus;

  • Assist with the training and onboarding of new Academic Placement Services Intervention Specialist team members;

  • Review student performance, by evaluating report cards, state standardized test scores, and placement tests and match against Connections Academy curricular options and determine which course(s) of study are appropriate for each student;

  • Approve course schedules for students entering Kindergarten through Grade 11, using Connections Academy’s Course Placement Tool;

  • Review eligibility criteria for gifted and talented applicants using previous academic documentation, placement tests results, and state standardized test scores;

  • Follow graduation requirements and course sequence guidelines to finalize placement for incoming students in grades 9-11;

  • Communicate course placement decisions clearly and accurately through verbal and written communication with parents;

  • Address family inquiries with a strong focus on client experience; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist prospective families through the enrollment process by answering program and placement related questions;

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Connections Academy’s K-12th grade curricular options;

  • Communicate with School Counselors, Principals and Teachers to help determine appropriate placements for students and families with specific needs;

  • Demonstrate a general understanding of Connections Academy’s special education program, Individual Education Programs (IEPs), and processes for supplying related services to students; and

  • Other duties as assigned by the Academic Placement Services Team Managers.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Counseling, or related field

  • Experience in an educational setting/school, preferably as a teacher, high school guidance counselor, reading specialist, or registrar (or with scheduling experience) preferred

  • Teacher certification preferred

  • Prior phone queue or customer service experience is highly preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Knowledge of curriculum as it corresponds to students’ developmental stages and state standards is beneficial

  • Able to act as a team player and demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced work environment

  • Must be able to learn quickly and multitask

  • Fast thinking and good problem solver

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail is essential

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, especially Word, Outlook, and Excel

  • Knowledge of online student information systems a plus
