Primary Responsibilities:

  • Takes lead on membership reporting for Specialty Benefits Vision segment covering more than 19M lives. Collaborates with accounting managers and OGS team to prepare and load manual adjusting entries to the General Ledger while ensuring GL string accuracy

  • Disseminates monthly membership data to key parties including controllership, FP&A and actuarial teams; research and explains significant variances to budget and forecast and performs reconciliations with actuary

  • Collaborates with Operational Data Store (ODS), Optum Global Solutions (OGS) and Financial Data Management (FDM) teams in ensuring consistent flow of statistical data across UHG financial systems and data repositories. Identifies system/tagging glitches and coordinates solution with appropriate team

  • Presents complex technical, financial or operational issues impacting month-end close process to senior leadership

  • Supports GAAP and statutory audits as well as extensive Third Party Administrator (TPA) filings work through-out the year

  • Supports revenues and medical expense teams by providing membership details required for financials analytics and/or research

  • Supports Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) reporting by loading Statistical data to the general ledger

  • Supports preparation of quarterly statutory filings (R-filings) related to revenues, membership and other statistical data

  • Supports special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in accounting/finance

  • 5+ years of prior work experience

  • SQL / SAS coding experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Superb attention to detail and financial data analysis skills

  • Data mining skills using SQL, SAS or Access

  • High proficiency with MS Office application including Excel, Access, Power Pivots and Power Point

  • Superb multi-tasking capabilities in managing projects with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Prior healthcare industry experience

  • MBA and/or CPA
