The Primary Purpose & Function of Clinical Position

To provide Addictions counseling under the direction of the Executive Director. The counselor will assure compassionate patient-centered care is delivered in a safe manner and environment to individuals seeking detoxification treatment for Substance Use Disorders and their associated cooccurring conditions. Medical, Clinical and Nursing services will be provided in accordance with evidence-based best practice standards and applicable to all Federal, State and Regional regulations per:.

  • Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations for Behavioral Health Care;

  • COMAR regulations;

SAMHSA / BHA guidelines; and

  • Maryland House Detox organization policies, procedures and compliance standards

  • Licensed or certified as an alcohol and drug counselors by the Board of Professional

Counselors and Therapists; Approved by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists; or Licensed, certified, or permitted under the Health Occupations Article, Annotated Code of Maryland to provide substance abuse treatment. Maintain a current, valid and unrestricted certification/ license as a CSC-AD, CAC-AD, or LGADC Bachelor's Degree Working knowledge of DSM V

Experience with ASAM Patient Placement Criteria

  • Current BLS Certification

1 years' experience as an addictions counselor, treating behavioral health, co-occurring conditions and lifestyle-related disorders managing both acute and chronic SUD.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling services as part of an interdisciplinary team

  • Provide behavioral health assessments, screening and treatment

Obtains Release of Information Consent(s) Initiate development of an Interim Treatment & Discharge Plan Coordinates Treatment Discharge Planning meeting Develops discharge plan and completes Hand-Off Discharge documentation

  • Updates discharge information on census

  • Communicates with outside entities on behalf of patients

Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug interactions, reactions, and withdrawal management medications protocol Respond to, care for and/or refer patients for emergent care when co-occurring needs are identified and cannot be met at facility, including accessing 911 and/or assisting with the involuntary commitment with documentation Consult with Medical Director, Psychiatrist and/or Physician on cases beyond the scope of practice for Counseling. Facilitates therapeutic, educational or topic discussion groups Conducts individual sessions as needed Facilitate family and/or significant other education groups, including Narcan administration training Ensure patients are referred to a specialist, if indicated Provides crisis intervention when necessary Facilitate community resource collaboration based on patient's needs to assure maximum social integration Be on call for consultation including during patient admissions Attend monthly clinical staff meetings and provide in-service training to staff Provide coverage for clinical services when needed, including when the Executive Director is

out of the facility or unavailable

  • Provides accurate and timely interventions and documentation

  • Cover after hours as needed, and as part of 24-hour coverage rotation

  • Participate in Performance Improvement projects

Maintain appropriate boundaries and ethical standards with colleagues and patients to assure

an appropriate setting and safe environment Collect data and/or provide patient safety information with preparation of report and/or submission to appropriate organizational committees, as required

and collaborative system of communication/documentation with ancillary third-party providers: Pharmacy Consultant, Lab Services, Dietician, etc. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge of the 12-Step Recovery program and process Knowledge of all applicable Federal, State and Regional regulations, including Accreditation standards that govern treatment of Substance Use Disorders including confidentiality, patient rights, ethics and discrimination
