PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position is responsible for developing strategic goals and their implementation plans for the College Savings business, championing and driving change in the organization, developing/creating strategic initiatives, and developing staff as leaders within the business unit. This role professionally develops and coaches various roles to reach their highest potential and grows the organizational capability with focus on building a pipeline of talent. The position serves as the internal liaison to other business members in intra-departmental and cross-functional businesses, such as Client Development (Sales), Legal Compliance, Control Group, FIS and other Intermediary business units, and as an external liaison to College Savings plan and Intermediary partner Plan-Client contacts for the coordination of both strategic and day-to-day operational business execution. The position is also responsible for maintaining positive relationships to ensure there is effective interdependent execution of College Savings Operational, Marketing, and Product development goals. Provides matrix management and leadership for other various College Savings roles as appropriate.
Managing and Leading Others
Manages a team of College Savings front-line Managers, Analysts, and Client Administration staff to ensure the world-class delivery of the contractual services to plan-clients (State-directed College Savings plans) in accordance with FINRA and MSRB policies and plan guidelines. Develops and implements plans to build high performing teams and a succession plan for the development of future leaders. Provides leadership to direct reports, indirect internal groups, and cross-departmental functions to ensure services are functioning effectively and College Savings plan-client satisfaction remain high. Communicates ongoing business priorities to various staff in different tailored mediums to achieve department goals. Recommends and provides appropriate staff resources to adequately service client needs while developing and reinforcing effective resource allocation and transitional plans that may result from such actions as staff turnover and plan assignment changes. Travels occasionally as necessary to support internal and external client/TRP business needs and strengthen client relationships. The role is responsible for managing in a matrix environment as needed to both develop and report to staff across locations. The position will provide on-site leadership, guidance, and management support as needed to managers in these areas whose direct managers are in another location.
Builds and maintains strategic partner relationships with appropriate Senior Management and staff, including such functions as Retirement Plan Services, Relationship Managers (RPS and College Savings Plans), Client Development (Sales), Marketing, Legal, and Compliance for the development and improvement of business relationships in support of client satisfaction, operational requirements, risk management, and compliance execution. Consults with and influences key stakeholders to understand and leverage synergies across departments and functions. Participates in and appropriately influences development of cross-functional business planning to ensure College Savings teams are operating in alignment with overall business strategies. Regularly develops and conducts communications to teams regarding organization’s goals and priorities, and progress relative to business plan. Stays abreast of market and industry trends as well as Plan-Client needs and developments to ensure our competitive capabilities are best positioned and resourced.
The manager is a champion for change and communicates effectively to the management team and associates the rationale and value of the change process to ensure a successful implementation and adoption within the organization. Must communicate regularly with key stakeholders to ensure that business changes and strategies are aligned, and that key practices are being shared. Responsible and accountable for change management execution in alignment with key strategic imperatives.
Drive Results and Accountability
Develops and monitors departmental performance measures and metrics along with alignment to operational procedures and processes for the achievement of business results. Ensures accountability and implementation within assigned groups by striving for the development and improvement of working knowledge of systems, processes, College Savings plans, and industry trends in conjunction with proactive management participation.
Manages positive plan-client and business relationships through effective communication and collaborating means. Proactively anticipates client service challenges, appropriately developing, influencing and incorporating creative solutions and alternatives while managing multiple demands and competing priorities. Solicits ideas and involves relevant others in formulating issue resolutions and communication approaches while overseeing matters to a successful result. Effectively influences and negotiates manners with business and plan-client relationships. Manages to ensure special consideration is given to our plan-clients averaging over $4BB in assets/plan, develops proactive strategies to address their needs, and resolves complex escalated issues quickly while communicating updates to various internal and external parties.
Leads in team building, recruitment, and development of College Savings staff to maintain a highly professional work group. Monitors and ensures group’s compliance with human resources policies and procedures; encourages positive employee relations. Meets regularly with direct reports to assess individual and team performance; serves as a role model for people management practices. Creates a “rewards for results” culture. Participates in College Savings and broader business unit succession planning and talent management process to identify and develop the right talent for the future. Addresses any gaps in talent needs and bench strength to ensure TRP leadership and College Savings Plan-Clients are best positioned for strong business execution.
Series 7, 66, and 24 required. Series 53 may be required, depending upon site leadership and office location.
Proven leadership and management ability to motivate and drive performance.

In depth knowledge of College Savings industry product and market trends, including regulatory and MSRB guidelines, recordkeeping systems, College Savings plans, and government requirements.
Ability to travel to support client service needs and participate in various meetings.
Business savvy and relationship management/developments skills to interact and influence business partners and clients.
Demonstrated decision-making capacity for operational and strategy activity as well as setting effective operational improvement initiatives and business strategies.
Outstanding client communication, presentation, and service skills (professional polish).
College degree and 4 years of related work experience, or Associate degree and 6 years related work experience, or High School diploma/equivalent and 8 years related work experience
Progressive experience with management assignments of large defined contribution providers and at least two years of that experience in successfully managing and motivating other managers. Demonstrated track record of accomplishments and show a drive for results. Experience in working at various management levels both internally and externally to deliver high client satisfaction.
