SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Fourth Dimension Engineering in Columbia, Maryland is seeking a talented and experienced Systems Engineer. The successful candidate will provide Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) support for a small team developing complex real-time embedded hardware and software systems.

Success in this position requires experience in multiple disciplines including software, hardware, firmware, communications technologies and RF. You will perform engineering of system architectures, requirements analysis and decomposition and system performance test and verification. You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing test plans and test reports and performing analytical evaluations of systems' performance. You will also review and assess contractor designs and conduct trade studies on alternative system design approaches. You will participate or lead technical meetings and government-led studies, assess technical baselines and ensure developed systems meet requirements. You will be able to work both independently and within a team environment. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who can operate in a less structured, free thinking environment, but who can also contribute and support overall team success.

Position requirements

• Ten (10) years experience with real-time embedded systems development

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Physics required; Master's preferred

• Four (4) years in a leadership position providing supervision to other hardware and software personnel

• Technical skills to understand and analyze system level problems, define potential solutions, and conduct in-depth technical analysis, assessments and trades and explain results of technical studies in a systems engineering context

• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of performance and requirements analysis techniques, and acceptance testing strategies/methodologies

• Experience in solving varied software related problems

• Experience in reviewing system designs for accuracy, completeness and appropriateness in light of objectives, budget and schedule

• One (1) year using CASE TOOLS, the Capability Maturity Model, development of performance and customer satisfaction metric tools

• Development experience with real-time operating systems and embedded Linux experience is a plus

• Must meet eligibility requirements for obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Government security clearance (no clearance needed initially to perform work)
