Position Summary:

The Vice President for Human Resources provides strategic senior leadership and direction for the HR function and consults with the university’s senior leadership team on a broad array of issues related to the university’s human capital. This hands-on position is responsible for leading all Human Resources operations, programs, and services for administrators, faculty, staff, and students. This position supports the university’s mission and strategic plan; ensures compliance with all applicable human resources laws, regulations, and policies; establishes human resources best practices; and creates a human resources organization that provides excellent consultative, strategic, and operational services. The Vice President for Human Resources reports to the President and serves on the President’s Cabinet.

Education/Experience:

Master’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field, plus ten years of progressively more responsible experience in human resources management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced HR certification, SPHR or equivalent required. J.D. is a plus. Higher Education experience in a private institution highly desirable. Must have competency in all Human Resources functions to include: recruitment and selection; compensation and benefits; budget management; professional development, training, succession planning, performance management and employee relations; safety; policies, procedures and legal regulations; and EEO, ADA and Title IX compliance.

Excellent working knowledge of: HRIS Systems (Ellucian), Applicant Tracking Software, Microsoft Suite, and other applicable software.

Essential Functions:

This is a hands-on position responsible for leading all Human Resources operations, programs, and services for administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Responsibilities include duties such as:

Develop and manage the university’s multi-million dollar personnel and benefits budgets.

Develop and implement policies and procedures to effectively support and manage the learning and work-life activities at Stevenson University.

Provide Cabinet level strategic Human Resource leadership as the university implements its strategic plan.

Oversee the search and selection process for university faculty and staff to ensure the acquisition and retention of a competent and diverse workforce.

Provide strategic direction and oversight for the university’s compensation plan including: competitive salaries, robust benefit program, survey participation, data analysis, and establishing appropriate classifications and compensation for all positions. Ensure compliance with applicable wage and hour laws and regulations.

Oversee and ensure compliance with laws and regulations that govern employment and employee benefits including, but not limited to, health insurance, the university’s Section 403(b) Retirement Plan, and employee leave, and serve as Chair of the Retirement Committee.

Develop, implement, and support a performance management system that integrates the strategies and action plans of the university’s strategic plan.

Oversee a robust program of professional development programs for administrators, faculty, and staff that includes: Executive Development Institute, Senior Seminar, Leadership Seminar, Management Fundamentals, Supervisors Round Table, and more.

Chair the Policy Manual Committee and oversee the development of the university’s policy manual, HR webpage, internal portal and other employee communication materials.

Serve as an internal consultant to managers and supervisors on employee relations and human resources issues.

Serve on the President’s Cabinet and attend a variety of university activities, many in the evenings or on the weekends.

Attend the Board of Trustees Audit, Finance and Property Committee meetings and quarterly Board of Trustees meetings.

Chair the Campus Coordinated Response Team (CCRT), serve as the university’s Title IX Coordinator, and serve as the Project Coordinator for the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) grant.

Execute other duties as assigned.
